Explosion at Terra Nitrogen

1st June 2006, 00:04

Following an explosion at the Ammonia 4 plant at the Terra Nitrogen works Billingham, a small fire was caused which was extinguished within 30 minutes by the on-site fire fighting teams along with the Cleveland Fire Brigade.  The incident was treated as an on-site major emergency and the major incident plans were put into place as a precaution. The Cleveland Communications Strategy was initiated and the public was warned via local radio stations to stay indoors, close all doors and windows and to tune in to local radio stations for further updates.  Roads were closed around the site but there were no other off-site effects.
