Proms in the Park - Centre Square Middlesbrough - 8th September 2007

Middlesbrough was elevated onto the international stage with the hosting of the Last Night of the Proms classical concert in Centre Square being broadcast live to over 100 million people worldwide.  Events took place in Ireland, Scotland and Wales, England being represented by Middlesbrough.  The Wildcats of Kilkenny and Journey South provided additional entertainment for the 5500 plus crowd who enjoyed the brilliant weather and excellent performances.  Matthew Davies of BBC Tees introduced the event and provided the voice for the event throughout the evening.  Live link-ups with the Royal Albert Hall via the big screen showed off the talents of the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra and the Tees Valley Youth Choir.  The Town Hall was bathed in coloured lighting with the new fountain and MIMA building (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) providing a picturesque backdrop to the event.  The concert culminated in a short but spectacular firework display rounding off the night nicely for the appreciative crowd.

The event was monitored from Event Control in the Town Hall staffed by Cleveland Police, the Event Organiser, Emergency Planning, Medics UK and All Events Security (AES) who worked in partnership with the BBC and Alan Hillary Events to provide a secure, safe and enjoyable environment for the concert.  Congratulations are extended to all who made the event so successful.
