A 25m Barge Has Run Aground at Redcar

The barge that was jacked up on legs on the sea bed taking core samples in Coatham Bay, Redcar, was damaged in strong winds and heavy seas on Saturday morning (02/02/08).  The legs of the barge snapped off and the barge drifted unmanned over rocks at 04:00 in the morning; Coastguards were alerted and found the barge being washed up on the shore at Redcar East, at approximately 04:30, amongst the groynes.  Company representatives and the crew were quickly on scene and the crew managed to get onboard in the afternoon at low tide, they inspected the vessel and made it safe.  There appeared to be little damage to the barge with the fuel tanks intact, there was no pollution and no risk to the public.  The barge was refloated on Monday the 4th February.
