Leaking Tanker Stopped on the A19

A19 10 April 2008

At 11am this morning the Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit was informed of a potential incident, involving a chemical tanker, which had been stopped, southbound on the A19 near Crathorne.

The unit responded on behalf of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, in conjunction with the emergency services, including Cleveland Fire Brigade’s Environmental Protection Unit, which is sponsored by the Environment Agency. It was soon identified that there was no risk to either members of the public using the A19 or to the environment.

The company which owns and operates the tanker, were on the scene quickly, ensuring that it was safe to continue using the roads; the tanker then returned to it’s depot. The resources used in such an incident are to ensure that all eventualities can be dealt with, thankfully there were no injuries or risk to the public. However the precautionary lane closure did cause some traffic congestion.
