Emergency Planning Bookmarks

27th May 2010

NEW bookmarks showing what do in the event of a major emergency have ben distributed accross Teesside.

The bookmarks have been devised by the Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit to help the public and business community understand the risks in our area and how to prepare should an incident occur.

The Unit has produced four bookmarks which are available from libraries across the area.

The bookmarks cover four subjects:

  • Severe Weather
  • The Risks in Cleveland
  • What to do in an Emergency
  • Business Continuity

Denis Hampson, Cleveland’s Chief Emergency Planning Officer, said: “Major incidents and emergencies are, thankfully, very rare both here and across the UK.

“However this area has one of the highest concentrations of risk factors in the UK, so it’s vital that we are prepared should the worst happen.

“That’s why resilient emergency plans are in place covering every eventuality, meaning the emergency services and local authorities all understand their roles and will be able to communicate and co-operate even under the most difficult circumstances.

“But members of the public and the business community also have a vital role to play and so it’s essential they have the facts at their fingertips.

“These bookmarks will ensure that information is readily available and easily understood by as wide an audience as possible.”

The bookmarks have been distributed to libraries across Middlesbrough, Stockton on Tees, Hartlepool and Redcar & Cleveland - next time you borrow a book don’t forget to pick up your free bookmark.

The bookmarks can also be obtained by calling the Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit on 01642 221121.
