Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit is
Awarded Beacon Status
Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit is recognised for its outstanding work
with the award of the prestigious Beacon Status. At a ceremony in
London the joint bid by: Hartlepool, Redcar & Cleveland, Middlesbrough
and Stockton-on-Tees councils along with Cleveland Police and Cleveland
Fire Brigade was recognized when the award was presented to the
successful bid team. Comments from the assessment team noted:
"There is a
unique and vibrant partnership between the applicant authorities and a
wider range of bodies in the public, private and voluntary sector.
The authorities demonstrated excellence in all areas and were
outstanding in others. There is much that authorities across the
country could learn from this partnership and what it has achieved -
particularly in terms of community and business engagement."
The overall score for the unit was
assessed as level 6 (outstanding) the highest score available. The
unit will now be expected to share its expertise and knowledge with
other units and authorities across the country.
