Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit is Awarded Beacon Status

Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit is recognised for its outstanding work with the award of the prestigious Beacon Status.  At a ceremony in London the joint bid by: Hartlepool, Redcar & Cleveland, Middlesbrough and Stockton-on-Tees councils along with Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire Brigade was recognized when the award was presented to the successful bid team.  Comments from the assessment team noted:

"There is a unique and vibrant partnership between the applicant authorities and a wider range of bodies in the public, private and voluntary sector.  The authorities demonstrated excellence in all areas and were outstanding in others.  There is much that authorities across the country could learn from this partnership and what it has achieved - particularly in terms of community and business engagement."

The overall score for the unit was assessed as level 6 (outstanding) the highest score available.  The unit will now be expected to share its expertise and knowledge with other units and authorities across the country.
