Each borough council employs a full-time Emergency Planning Officer. Other key council officers have also been identified and form part of the Emergency Response Team
To allow each borough council to support the Emergency Services during the life saving and operational phase of a Major incidents.
The borough council's Major Incident Plans are generic plans written to cover many different types of incident, We plan for the effects on people and the environment not the cause of the incident.
Yes we produce Industrial Off-Site plans covered by the Control of Major Accident Hazard Regulations 1999 (COMAH) and the Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2001 (REPPIR), we have other specific plans i.e. Flooding & Oil Pollution etc.
There are 36 top tier industrial sites in the former Cleveland area that have individual emergency plans.
The plans are exercised on a regular basis with our colleagues in the Emergency Services, and used during the very rare real incidents.
The Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit have a duty officer systems that provides 24 hour 365 days a year response to any actual or potential incident, the duty officer can then notify the relevant authority.

Evacuation is often considered as a last resort, depending on the incident you are often safer in your homes or offices. If you are advised to evacuate follow the instructions given, they are for your safety.
